Cliff Scarborough/ November 21, 2016/ Facilitator Corner

Hi! We have a couple of updates I wanted to share with you before Thanksgiving Break.

TEC Website

We have a new website for the Technology Empowerment Center. Visit It at tec.mainlandhighschool.org These notes and other information will be accessible and searchable. We will be growing what we offer based on feedback we receive. So want to see something on the site? Just Ask!

Computer Updates

You may have received the email below from Jennifer Hoag on updates coming to our computers. I have some news to share with you, this will only effect computers with Windows 10. Systems will be rolling out the Anniversary Edition of Windows 10. You can learn more about the changes on my new blog here. This update will take 40 mins. Leave your classroom computers and if possible leave your laptop on. For computers that do not receive the update over the break, it will begin downloading and installing when you return. Once it is ready it will reboot and take 40 mins to install.

Copy Center

Did you miss the ability to print from home? You can download the drivers for your home computers. It now supports Macs as well! Directions are posted here.

Subject: Critical Microsoft Update – Tuesday, November 22, 2016

IMPORTANT – TIME SENSITIVE INFORMATION

 Dear Staff,

On the evening of Tuesday, November 22, 2016, Microsoft will be applying a critical update that could take up to 45 minutes to complete. We advise that all staff and student devices remain powered on and logged off to ensure the update is applied to all computers, same as the normal Wednesday night update practice.

If you need to take your device home during the Thanksgiving break, please be aware that the update will be applied when you return causing a 30 to 45 minute delay in using your computer.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR COMPUTER LAB AND CART MANAGERS:

Please plan to have all student devices turned on prior to the end of the day on Tuesday, November 22nd.  Be aware that any student device that is not left on will automatically begin to receive the update once the device is turned on.  The update will take up to 45 minutes to complete.

Please plan accordingly.   If you have any questions, please call Customer Support at extension 20000.  Have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving!

Sincerely,

Jennifer J. Hoag
